Salford born artist Harold Riley, was a great friend of L. S. Lowry and, for many years, both men were interested in the
street scenes around their hometown.
At age 17, Harold Riley gained a scholarship to the well-known Slade School in London and went on to finish his training
He is a follower of sport, and sporting scences are some of his most acclaimed subjects - especially golf, having painted
some of the greatest golfers in some of the best contests around the world; including Jack Nicklaus, perhaps the best golfer of
all time. Harold Riley has become known internationally as probably the most famous painter of golf.
He was invited to paint at the Dunhill Golf Championship in South Africa in December 2005 - as he has done for the past 10 years.
He is a dedicated portrait painter, and has painted many prominent people from the Kennedys, various Popes, Royalty to Nelson Mandela.
